Board Of Directors
President – Kris Corley
Kris Corley rowed for the Aztecs from 2012-2016, and contributed to an outstanding era of racing at SDSU. After graduation, he moved across the US to New York for professional interests. However, his heart still remains with the Aztecs, and he continues to contribute to the team and keep Rowing at SDSU.
Vice President – Steve Lewis
Steve rowed with the Aztecs from 1991 – 1995. He was part of the undefeated novice boat in Spring 1992. After his rowing career with the men he coached the SDSU women’s crew for 3 years. He is still a morning person.
Treasurer – Andy Olson
Andy rowed and was on officer for the team from 1997-2000, then traded his oar for a megaphone and continued to serve as a novice coach for the next few years. Andy was also the founding President of the H. Del Beekley Rowing Foundation and has has served various positions on the board in the years since.
Secretary – Russ Young
Russ grew up just across I-8 from SDSU, began rowing there in 1976 and was the varsity captain in 1979. He stuck around for a year to coach the freshman and novices, and to run the Mission Bay Rowing Association. Russ then left San Diego to live in three great rowing cities: Berkeley, Boston and (now) Seattle.
At large board member – Allan Miller
After rowing at UCLA 1975-77, Allan left to surf in San Diego having thought UCLA was a junior college. Missing the team environment, Allan joined the Aztecs 1978-80. In 1980-81 he coached the freshmen/novices, made the USA lightweight 8 and got married to the Aztec women’s 6 seat Mary Tuft seeking to improve his family genetics.
Allan will contribute to communications, banquet planning, and fund-raising. And as Bernie Aparcio has pointed out, having something to say about everything.
At large board member – Darlene Disney
“I was a summer worker at the Aquatic Center under Del Beekley’s guidance, and am grateful to give back by participating on the board that honors him and his work. I have had the good fortune to row with some great athletes and to win lots of races. I love winning races! I rowed for the Aztecs for two years, then with the Vesper Rowing Club in Philadelphia for another five. I coached high-school rowers in Pennsylvania, then returned to San Diego in 1987, where I coached the Aztec women for two years, then at USD for two more. I served as the executive director of the Crew Classic for six years and as the Southwest representative on US Rowing’s board of directors.”
Team President – Daniel Heringer
Daniel was a cross country and track athlete in high school, and looking for an opportunity to continue to compete he found rowing. His first year he served as novice co-captain and earned Most Valuable Novice. The following year, he was elected varsity captain and earned the Most Dedicated Athlete Award. Now president, Daniel is committed to carrying on the tradition of Aztec rowing.
